RMI V3 Video Player
by R Blank - Sunday, 27 December 2009, 04:56 PM

As part of a set of enhancements underway at the moment, we're releasing a new version of the RMI Course Viewer -- the video player you use to watch your courses.

Today, we rolled out the new player to:
- Practical ActionScript 3
- ActionScript Development with FDT (three separate courses)

This includes a few notable bug fixes (some issues that we've known about for a while, but just now had time to get under the hood and address), but more importantly, this new version features enhanced global delivery of our content, with beefed up FMS servers out of Amsterdam, for the enhanced viewing pleasure of our European and Asian customers.

Assuming all goes as planned, we'll roll this out to all the courses this week.

Happy holidays!

Video Player - Seeking Improvement
by R Blank - Sunday, 7 February 2010, 02:51 PM

I just posted an update to the RMI course video player.

It started out as a really minor revision, but even though this wasn't a major overhaul, you should notice a few things, especially that seeking has been significantly improved:
:: First, to prevent conflicting seek calls (which have the potential to overwhelm the server) the player now prevents that from happening -- one seek at a time
:: Second, we modified the buffer -- long story short, seeking should now go MUCH faster

Also:
- a few layout bugs have been remedied
- a few key buttons have been moved out of a submenu into the main chrome, making them more obvious
- some other bits and pieces of design and layout tweaks

If you notice any bugs with this new version of the player, please let me know or contact RMI support immediately.

Thank you very much for your continued support of the RMI.
